ŽRK Mlinotest Ajdovščina and the University of Nova Gorica Signed an Agreement on Collaboration

By signing the contact, they confirmed that the two institutions will – through the connection of and the collaboration between science and sports – ensure better conditions for their work and growth of creativity, and, moreover, they will strive for a closer relation between the two.

For the time being, the collaboration will be related mostly to promotion of both of the institutions’ activities, however, the University and the Club anticipate that the collaboration will develop more in the future and incorporate also other areas: “It is important that the University is involved in various activities in its region and sports is definitely an area that represents a desirable, or rather, essential sphere of collaboration. It does not only bring along a possibility of relaxation, but enables our students to get involved in different activities of the Club, which strengthens the reputation of both institutions. We are proud that our region has such a great female handball team and we hope that these great handball players will also be great advocators of our university,” stated the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik.

The Chair of the Board of Directors of the ŽRK Mlinotest Ajdovščina and of the Mlinotest joint-stock company David Nabergoj said: “I am glad to witness this new collaboration, since the integration of sports and science is important for both the younger and the older generation in our area. In Mlinotest, we have been supportive of the Ajdovščina handball for years. Our intention has been to enable a faster and a high quality progress of the female handball players. Our collaboration with the University of Nova Gorica gives everyone greater broadness of vision and greater prospects for work.”

ŽRK Mlinotest Ajdovščina celebrates its 55th anniversary this year and it has continuously developed and nurtured its reputation as a quality handball team from Ajdovščina. They have already achieved top results in Slovenia. Moreover, it is a well respected club in the Slovene handball world.

This year, the club is responsible for the practice and the competing of about 130 female players in various categories. The membership category team, who plays for the 1st State Handball League, achieved 8th place in the 2012-2013 season. Female cadets and older girls in the A group were placed among the 6 best teams in Slovenia. Also the younger selections were placed in the top half on the competing charts. The Danilo Lokar Elementary School team from Ajdovščina, consisting of the Club’s players, achieved the first place in the Slovenian championship for the second time in the last three years.

ŽRK Mlinotest Ajdovščina believes that a high quality team builds its strength on coexistence, sharing of experiences and competition between various generations of female players. This approach calls for a continuous renewal of the teams as well as education of our players. We believe that a promising collaboration with an important institution such as the University of Nova Gorica will tremendously contribute to this vision.
