University of Nova Gorica invites to the lecture: "Women, Men, Human Capital: the Local and the Global in Migrations over Time" by Prof. Dr. Dirk Hoerder.
Lecture will take place on Wednesday, 16 October 2013 at 7 p.m. at the Lanthieri mansion in Vipava.
Lecture will be in English.
In this lecture I will discuss the decisions of men and women to use their capabilities ("human capital") in a place other than their place of birth, in a society that provides more options to determine their life course in a local space, in the frame of larger economic, societal, and political constraints and opportunities. I will use the Alexandrinkes as one example but place their lives in the context and other local-to-local migrations across the globe. This approach has been called "from the bottom up" - but for men and women life-course options are at the care, not the bottom of decision-making.
