The minister of Education, Science, and Sport, Dr. Jernej Pikalo and the acting general manager of the Higher Education and Science Directorate Mišela Mavrič, PhD, visited the University of Nova Gorica today. They were greeted by the Rector of the University of Nova Gorica, Prof. Dr. Danilo Zavrtanik and the Vice-rectors, Prof. Dr. Gvido Bratina and Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko.

In the beginning of the meeting, the Rector briefly introduced the university and after that, the conversations revolved around topical issues in education and science, as well as around the questions concerning the financing of student activities and the plans for the construction of the university campus.

After that, the minister checked out the Laboratory for Environmental Research that conducts basic and applied research in the various fields of environmental studies and environment preservation studies. The Laboratory work was presented to him by the Vice-rector for Education and the Head of the Laboratory, Prof. Dr. Mladen Franko. The Minister also visited the School of Arts in the Alvarez Palace in Gorizia, in Italy. The Dean of the school, Prof. Boštjan Potokar and the Program Director Prof. Rene Rusjan, presented to the Minister the contemporary studies that they offer, both in regard to the learning tools, as well as in regard to the choices of study topics and academic advisors. At the end of his visit, the Minister visited the University's venues in the Lantieri Mansion, where the School for Viticulture and Enology, Wine Research Center, and the Center for Biomedical Sciences and Engineering are based and tried out various univeristy wines.

At the end of the meeting, the Minister said that his visit to the University of Nova Gorica was a pleasant and a positive surprise, as the University has done a lot of work on the past years and surely, the good work will continue in the future. He also stated that he was sure the students were offered high quality studies and also, thus, given a good starting point for their future lives.
