The main purpose of the meeting was a discussion of the possibilities of collaboration among universities in our region on both sides of the border.

Prof. Dr. Zavrtanik first greeted the attendees at the meeting. After that, the Head of the Cross-border Association “Université de la Grande Région - UniGR”, Prof. Dr. Lucienne Blessing spoke about collaboration among six universities from four different countries under the auspices of the cross-border association “Université de la Grande Région - UniGR”.

The cross-border association “Université de la Grande Région - UniGR” joins together three German universities, one Belgian, one French, and one university from Luxembourg. Altogether, it has 123.000 students. Due to close collaboration among partner universities, the cross-border association works towards better exchange and mobility options for students, professors, and scientists and attempts to arrange joint study programs.

All those present at the meeting happily accepted the initiative of the University of Nova Gorica, as it is important that the universities within one region stay connected. Various forms of collaboration that already exist among the universities could be extended to all areas of education, research, and arts. Such collaborative aspirations are very important also when it comes to applying for international projects and grants that specifically call for such networking among universities and set this as one of the conditions on the application.
