The University of Nova Gorica has vacancies for the following positions
at the Faculty of Humanities:

  • DEAN OF THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES (m/f)
  • UNIVERSITY TEACHER IN THE FIELD OF CULTURAL HISTORY – assistant professor/associate professor/full professor (m/f)
  • UNIVERSITY TEACHER IN THE FIELD OF MIGRATIONS – assistant professor/associate professor/full professor (m/f)

The Faculty of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica is updating its existing programmes and introducing new study content and programmes with the aim of increasing the interdisciplinary dimension of studies in the humanities. To this end we are advertising three positions for which we are seeking experts in the fields of cultural history, cultural heritage, migration studies and related fields, who are interested in a research and academic career at the University of Nova Gorica.

We offer a dynamic research and educational environment with a focus on involvement in the international sphere. We are seeking colleagues motivated by the challenges of designing and heading programmes and laying new foundations for the humanities at the University, in both the areas of education and research. The holders of these positions are also offered the possibility of establishing independent research fields and forming their own research groups.

1) To be considered for the position of Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, candidates should: * have a doctorate in the field covered by the faculty; * hold at least the title of assistant professor or the qualifications to be elected to such title; * meet the requirements for leading research projects; * have good organisational and leadership skills; * have at least five years’ work experience after obtaining a doctorate; * have a knowledge of Slovenian and English to at least C1 level.

2) To be considered for the position of University Teacher in the field of cultural history, candidates should: * have a doctorate in the field of history, cultural history or related disciplines; * hold at least the title of assistant professor or the qualifications to be elected to the appropriate title; * demonstrate the capacity for independent work; * have at least two years’ work experience after obtaining a doctorate; * have knowledge of the English language to at least C1 level.

3) To be considered for the position of University Teacher in the field of migrations, candidates should: * have a doctorate in the field of social, environmental or related studies; * hold at least the title of assistant professor or the qualifications to be elected to the appropriate title; * demonstrate the capacity for independent work; * have at least two years’ work experience after obtaining a doctorate; * have knowledge of the English language to at least C1 level.

Candidates selected for the shortlist will be invited to submit an expansive vision for development of the faculty (for the position under point 1), or of the programme (for the positions under points 2 and 3), both in terms of education and research.

In accordance with their elections, the selected candidates will be involved in the educational process and the provision of lectures in the study programmes of the Faculty of Humanities. The candidates selected for the positions under points 2 and 3 will also take on organisational tasks (programme director) in one of the study programmes provided by the faculty.

The positions will be available immediately after conclusion of the selection process. Employment contracts will be concluded for full-time working hours, for the position under point 1 for a fixed term of 4 years, covering the term of office with the possibility of re-appointment, and for the positions under points 2 and 3 for a fixed term of 12 months, with the possibility of permanent extension.
