The branch of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology at the University of Nova Gorica

At the meeeting held on November 11-12, 2010 in Triest, the Governing Board of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), confirmed the founding of its branch in Nova Gorica.

In its initial phase, the branch will operate on the 500 sq metres premises of the University of Nova Gorica. The designed premises are to be renovated in order to meet the high demands of the future laboratories. The ICGEB will provide the funds for covering the three years’ operating costs in the total amount of EUR500,000, as well as make the most advanced research equipment in Triest available.

The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), having its headquarters in Triest (Italy) and branches in New Delhi (India), Cape Town (South Africa) and Buenos Aires (Argentina), was founded in 1984. The ICGEB is an international research organisation with 61 full Member States, including Slovenia. Its mission is advanced research in molecular biology and biotechnology. The Centre provides a scientific and educational environment of the highest standard for training researchers for the benefit of developing its member states and their institutions in the fields of genetic engineering and biotechnology.
