International School: “Monitoring, fate and toxicity of toxic compounds in the terrestrial environment”

University of Nova Gorica has organized an International School: “Monitoring, fate and toxicity of toxic compounds in the terrestrial environment”, which will be held in Nova Gorica during the period from 29.11. until 11.12.2010. The International School will be partially cofinanced by the Republic of Slovenia, Centre for Mobility and European Educational and Training programmes (CMEPIUS) for students from CEEPUS countries.

School, led by prof. dr. Polonca Trebše and prof. dr. Elsa Fabbretti, is intended for graduate students of natural sciences, and will be attended by 22 foreign students from nine European countries, Russia, South Korea and Argentina, together with 13 students from Slovenia (the University of Nova Gorica and the Jožef Stefan International Graduate School in Ljubljana). At the school 12 foreign and 6 Slovenian internationally recognised professors and eminent researchers in the field of environmental chemistry, toxicology and analytical chemistry will be involved.

Study contents, offered by the International School, are important for the comprehensive understanding of the effects of pollution on soil and land environments in general and includes sections such as soil contamination, soil processes, remediation techniques, chemical methods for the detection of pollutants in the soil, assessment the effects of pollutants on organisms in the terrestrial environment, biomonitoring and risk assessment.

The content of International School is accredited through the graduate study programme in Environmental sciences 3. Level at University of Nova Gorica. Participants will be able to attain ECTS credits for the workshop after their successful final evaluation.

The Opening ceremony of International School will be held on 29th November 2010 at 6 pm at the University of Nova Gorica (lecture hall 201), in via Croce 3, Gorizia, Italy.
