Opening of the exhibition The Solar Share and presentation of the projects made by the students of the School of Humanities and the School of Arts of the UNG!

Dear all!

You are cordially invited to the opening of the exhibition by Disnovation.org and our students from UNG. The exhibition opens on Thursday, 9 May 2024 at 18.00 in Xcenter. The research collective Disnovation.org will present their new work The Solar Share, while the students from the School of Humanities and the School of Arts of the University of Nova Gorica will present the works they have created in the interdisciplinary course "Avant-Garde and Experiment". This year the course was dedicated to exploring art and strategies of the 20th and 21st century avant-gardes through the concept of crisis. Five student works emerged from the question of how the avant-garde project continues today, ranging from inquiring radicality, environmental literacy and the value of the individual within an extractivist logic, to speculative bodily transformations as a result of the use of technology, and finally the necessity of an artistic response to the destruction of war.

The course was co-mentored by Baruch Gottlieb, Maria Roszkowska and Nicolas Maigret, members of the research collective Disnovation.org that works at the intersection between contemporary art, activism, research, and hacking. Their artistic provocations and projects are based on close collaborations with scientists, activists, engineers and designers, and aim to empower alternative imaginaries and practices beyond growth and progress. In different ways, they question the prevailing idea today that technology will be the one to save the world.

The event is one of the main within the rich programme of the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Slovenia's accession to the EU and part of the official programme of the European Capital of Culture 2025 Nova Gorica – Gorizia.
