What is European Researchers’ Night?

European Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide action launched as part of the Horizon 2012 Research and Innovation Programme. As a result of this initiative of the European Commission, once a year the doors of research organisations all over Evrope are wide open to present the jobs and lives of scientists to the general public. In Slovenia, in 2016 and 2017 the European Researchers’ Night with the slogan Science for Life will be carried out by a five-member project consortium including also the University of Nova Gorica.

European Researchers’ Night 2017 in Nova Gorica – event programme

On 29th September 2017, various events will take place at the Bevkov Square in Nova Gorica. In cooperation with local organisations, the University of Nova Gorica will organise workshops, presentations, open days, demonstrations of experiments and other activities, through which the general public will be able to get in contact with researchers and learn how the science contributes to the society in general. On this occasion, the Nova Gorica Centre of Culture will also host the award ceremony for the winners of the contest for poetry film and photography, aimed at students of primary and secondary schools in Slovenia as well as at the pupils of primary and secondary schools it Italy, Austria and Hungay with Slovenian as the language of instruction and the respective bilingual schools. The contest is organised by the School of Humanities of the University of Nova Gorica

Invitation for primary and secondary school pupils/students to participate in the contest for poetry, film and photography

The partners of the European Researchers’ Night 2017 in Slovenia consortium – the University of Maribor, the University of Primorska, the University of Nova Gorica, the National Institute for Biology and the Franc Miklošič Grammar School from Ljutomer invite all pupils and students of primary and secondary schools in Slovenia, as well as the primary and secondary schools in Italy, Austria and Hungary with Slovenian as the language of instruction and the respective bilingual schools to participate in the award-winning contest for poetry, film and photography. In this way we hope to inspire the young to reflect upon the profession of a researcher and present it through their own creative artistic ideas. The contest is organised by the School of Humanities of the university of Nova Gorica

Teachers, other educational workers, parents of primary and secondary school childrenand other individuals working with children and the young are welcome to share the news about the contest.

Invitations for the schools, kindergartens and other organised groups

All schools, kindergartens and other organised groups are kindly invited to visit the events of the European Researchers’ Night on 29th September 2017. Most of the events will take place from 9:00 to 21:30 at the Bevkov Square in Nova Gorica and in the Nova Gorica Centre of Culture. Besides attending the Scientific marathon of the University of Nova Gorica (round table Science is cool! and a series of short scientific lectures for the general public ) and the Award ceremony for the winners of the contest for poetry, film and photography , you can also book free guided tours of the presentations and workshops held on the stalls at Bevkov Square in Nova Gorica. In addition, environmental workshops and the workshop Multilingualism matters will be organised for young children.
