Sandra Gardonio is researcher at the Materials Research Laboratory of the University of Nova Gorica and Director of the Doctoral Study Programme of Physics (III. level) at the Graduate school at the University of Nova Gorica.
At Materials Research Laboratory she proposes and performs experiments devoted to understand fundamental physical/chemical aspects of materials with applications as electronic and environmental materials. She studies the electronic and chemical properties of low dimensional model systems by means of photoelectron spectroscopy techniques. She proposes and performs experiments at synchrotron facilities related to: chemical reactivity of surfaces, the electronic properties of magnetic thin film supported on metal surfaces, the electronic and chemical properties of atoms, clusters and thin film supported on topological insulator surfaces.
In 1999 she obtained the B.Sc. in Physics at University of Padova (Italy) and in 2003 the Ph.D. in Material Science at University of Rome “La Sapienza” (Italy).
From 2003 to 2006 she was postdoc at the Instituto di Struttura della Materia –CNR (Trieste, Italy) and from 2007 to 2010 she was beamline scientist for photoemission beamlines at Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A. (Italia).
From 2011 to 2016 Sandra Gardonio was assistant of the coordinator of the European project “Strengthening University of Nova Gorica Research Excellence in Environmental Sciences and Novel Nanomaterials” (SUNGREEN), that was financed by (REGPOT-2011-1). Partners of the projects were Imperial College London, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste S.C.p.A., Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (EPFL) in Delft University of Technology. From 2016 she is part of the research team of the project ”Topologically designed magnesium alloys for biomedical applications” ARRS-RPROJ-JR-Prijava/2014-II/205 (Javna agencija za raziskovalno dejavnost Republike Slovenije), partner organizations: University of Vienna, Austia.
