The University of Nova Gorica has a vacancy for the position of assistant in the field of microbiology.
Deadline for applications: 15. 6. 2020

We invite candidates who are interested in working as an assistant to apply for this position at the student-friendly and research-oriented University of Nova Gorica. We offer a dynamic and interdisciplinary research environment at the Wine Research Centre, supported by the latest research equipment and including direct involvement in the international research arena.

The Wine Research Centre is housed at Dvorec Lanthieri in Vipava, which stands in the middle of a winegrowing region and maintains close ties with local grape and wine producers. Members of the Wine Research Centre group have highly diverse research and practical experience and excellent international ties with other organisations and companies involved in the production of grapes, wine and low-alcohol beverages. The research work performed by the successful candidate will therefore be connected to the research activities that have been under way for several years in collaboration with the NIBIO Ullensvang institute in Norway and with local cider producers, and will focus on an examination of the ecology and biodiversity of the native yeasts isolated from cider and from orchards in the Norwegian area of Hardanger, and on characterising these yeasts for the development of starter cultures for cider production. The candidate will also be involved in the teaching process at the University of Nova Gorica.

As part of their employment, the successful candidate will enrol in the third-cycle (doctoral) Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology programme at the UNG Graduate School.

Application requirements: * completion of at least a Bologna second-cycle programme or pre-Bologna university-level programme in the biotechnical or environmental sciences; * fulfilment of the conditions for election to the title of “Assistant” at the University of Nova Gorica (minimum grade point average of 8.0); * ability to work independently, be flexible enough for group work, and work reliably and with the necessary mastery of detail; * knowledge of the English language to at least B1 level; * enrolment in the third-cycle Molecular Genetics and Biotechnology programme at the University of Nova Gorica’s Graduate School in the 2020/21 academic year.

The following must be attached to the application: * a brief motivational letter; * a CV; * a copy of your degree certificate or other relevant documents; * a letter of recommendation.

The successful candidate will be expected to start work as soon as possible after the selection process has been completed or as dictated by the national measures set out for education institutions during the coronavirus epidemic.

Employment is offered for full-time working hours over a fixed term of one year.
